Late summer offers several new, fun activities in the ORO area. Thanks to Dee Sordillo, we have the following list of local activities to explore in August and September:
- Aug 1 – Oct 30: Rodin: Contemplation and Dreams (Lakeland, FL)
- More than 40 of Rodin’s works are throughout the gallery of the Polk Museum of Art at Florida Southern College. While visiting this museum, don’t miss all the Frank Lloyd Wright architecture as well.
- Aug 5-28: Murder for Two (Winter Park, FL)
- The Winter Park Playhouse offers one of the most funniest Off-Broadway musical comedies to hit the stage with 2 actors, 13 characters, and 1 piano. A zany blend of classic musical comedy and madcap mystery, this whodunit is a highly theatrical duet loaded with killer laughs.
- Aug 18 & 25: Free Summer Concert Series (New Smyrna Beach, FL)
- Every Thursday in August at Riverside Park, crowds gather by the gazebo in the warm glow of early evening to enjoy rotating sets of bluegrass, rockabilly, Latin music, and classic rock.
- August 20: Wine Stroll (Clermont, FL)
- Explore historic Downtown Clermont while sampling wine at participating shops. Tickets are $20 and available at Optima One Realty.
- Aug 20 & 27: Leigh Shannon’s Cabaret Dinner Show (Orlando, FL)
- The Cabaret Dinner Show with host, Leigh Shannon, features the finest in female impersonation, comedy, and celebrity look-a-likes. This show is on Saturday nights.
- Aug 26 – Oct 2: Magical Dining (Orlando, FL)
- Experience Orlando’s acclaimed culinary scene with three-course, fixed-price dinners at many popular restaurants, including MICHELIN Guide honorees. Dinners are just $40 per person, plus tax and gratuity.
- Sept 1-11: Exit Laughing (New Smyrna Beach, FL)
- Three aging Alabama ladies gathered for their first weekly card game since their fourth member died. Then she shows up unexpectedly… in an urn.
- Sept 3, 10, 17, & 24: Leigh Shannon’s Cabaret Dinner Show (Orlando, FL)
- The Cabaret Dinner Show with host, Leigh Shannon, features the finest in female impersonation, comedy, and celebrity look-a-likes. This show is on Saturday nights.
- Sept 7-25: Noises Off (Orlando, FL)
- Presented by Orlando Shakes at Orlando Shakespeare Theater, enjoy this hysterical play-within-a-play, filled with screwball antics, prat-falls, and sight gags.
- Sept 10 & 17: Michael Petrovich at Farmer’s Market (Winter Garden, FL)
- Michael will fill the market air at 9am-1pm in the Downtown Pavilion, 104 S. Lakeview Avenue, as he plays his Spanish guitar favorites from his albums.
- Sept 16: Flamenco Live Music at Fridays on the Plaza (Winter Garden, FL)
- Spanish flamenco artist, Don Soledad, plays 7-9pm at Centennial Plaza as part of Hispanic Heritage Month.
- Sept 23: Rumba Brothers at Fridays on the Plaza (Winter Garden, FL)
- The Rumba Brothers music duo of Jose Velez and Luis Alfredo perform traditional Mariachi, Caribbean, and Latin music 7-9pm at Centennial Plaza as part of Hispanic Heritage Month.
- Sept 23 – Oct 16: Sh-Boom! Life Could Be A Dream (Winter Park, FL)
- The Winter Park Playhouse has you meet Denny and the Dreamers, a fledgling doo-wop singing group preparing to enter the Big Whooper Radio contest to realize their dreams. The early 60s hits include Fools Fall in Love, Tears on my Pillow, Runaround Sue, Unchained Melody and many more.
- Sept 24: The Ron Carter Trio with the UCF Flying Horse Big Band (Orlando, FL)
- At the Oakland Town Center, the Ron Carter Trio will be performing with the Flying Horse Big Band in a free jazz concert.
- Sept 24: Pirates of the Saint Juans Pub Invasion (Sanford, FL)
- The 14th annual Pirates of the Saint Juans pub invasion offers contests and prizes at every stop.
