If you have been out walking around ORO between 8:00am and 9:00am on Tuesdays and Thursdays, you have no doubt seen the Walking Group with Dottie Durkin in the lead. They meet at the Clubhouse to start their 1 hour walk around the park. Somewhat like the pied piper, they pick up more walkers along the way.
On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, the group meets upstairs in the clubhouse, where they do a regimen of a 4-mile walk, sometimes using weights or bands as an extra challenge. They have been meeting every weekday since December 2021 in all weather, and they plan to continue until May 2022.
If you are on their walking route, you have probably seen them greeting everyone they meet with a friendly wave and a smile. Not only do they walk for exercise and fun, but they supported the Polk County Senior Games this year by purchasing their tee shirts. The group planned to participate, but unfortunately bad weather canceled this year’s event. Next year, the group will try again to represent ORO at the senior games.
For good company and great exercise while catching up on all the news of the park, this is the group to be with. Just come to the clubhouse on Tuesday or Thursday, look for the fittest people around, and introduce yourself. You will be welcomed by all.
